Tenth edition but first in parts, as reviewed and expanded.
Contemporary half navy blue morocco over marbled paper boards by E. Babouot, spine in six compartments with gilt dots and double gilt compartments richly decorated with gilt motifs, gilt fillet frame to covers, some corners slightly bumped, marbled endpapers and pastedowns, ex libris of Victor Hugo pasted to versos of upper covers.
Handsome autograph inscription signed by Arsène Houssaye to Victor Hugo, "au maître des maîtres / à mon cher Victor Hugo / Arsène Houssaye [To the master of masters / my dear Victor Hugo / Arsène Houssaye]", on a leaf bound in at start of first volume.
The page with the inscription has a small angular lack, a few spots mostly affecting the endpapers.
