They are the sign of a desire, of a trust in the recipient, they lay bare the individual behind the writer, a final trace of the writing hand on the finished work - intimately subjected to the particular gaze of a close friend, a peer or an influential critic.

The different types of printing paper

"Papier Japon"

Among deluxe copies, the finest are printed on so-called "papier japon".

Undoubtedly the most beautiful of luxury papers, "papier japon", like "papier chine", differs radically from European papers as it is plant-based (mulberry bark or other Japanese shrubs).

This thick, silky, satiny, and pearly paper helps make each page a work of art in its own right. It reveals its full nobility when used for poetry. The prime ink absorption and affinity with colors also make it the ideal medium for artists' books and lithographs.

Almost tear-proof and resistant to foxing, its only drawback is its lack of flexibility, which means it almost always requires binding, both for handling and to do justice to its aesthetic perfection.
