Rare first edition consists of an allegorical title engraved with the arms of Napoleon and 59 inset plates engraved on steel by Boizot, Beauvallet, Vallois under drawings of Bralle. All prints are executed with great finesse and have a scale and an aerial view at the bottom of board. The book will be released later under a different title in 1812, and with no mention of Napoleon, with a text description of Amaury Duval. Fountains of Paris, old and new In later editions, the figure will be expanded, including in 1828.
Bound in black half shagreen across the nineteenth, boards handmade paper, all sprinkled edges, cap and tail frayed corners slightly rubbed. A few scattered spots on the title and slips guard. Good copy.
