James COOK

French Edition 8vo, published at the same time that an edition in-4, illustrated with 64 plates and maps (Plate 25 absent) including 12 maps, including the large map of the southern hemisphere, all drawn on strong paper. Translated by Jean-Baptiste Suard, which has added to the writings of Cook's relationship Tobias Furneaux and George Forster, and observations made during the second voyage of Cook on geography, natural history and moral philosophy by Johann Forster . The boards are the result of drawings made during the expedition by Mr. Hodges; boards landscapes and views, many are particularly successful.
Half vellum rigid time with small corners. Smooth back. Parts as brown morocco decorated with friezes. The bindings do not wear piece volume number. Boards partly emerged, with stitching a little loose (the portrait and the first card no longer held by a seam). The format of the atlas is generally in-4, the plates were bent here. A pale yellow wetness on the title page of Volume V. Some slots in the folds of some boards. Good copy.
The three circumnavigations made by Captain James Cook, 12 years of sea, leaving none and countless knowledge, not only in the map area, but also botanical, geographical legacy ... To complete the excellence of his travels, Cook was an assistant to many scientists, astronomer, botanist and painters. Although his huge discoveries are known for Oceania, it is the first to set foot in Australia and many islands, he went up to Kamchatka in order to discover the famous passage from the northwest, in Antarctica ... On his second trip, he wrote, he wants to go "... not only farther than any man has gone before me, but as far as I think possible for a man to go"
The relationship of travel is completed tables trips, a Vocabularies of the language of the Society Islands, astronomical observations, and a Disboard on the health of seafarers. This edition is the second voyage of Cook completed 1772 to 1775 in the Southern Ocean; Cook's relationship begins with a trip to the South Pole. --- Please note that the translation in english is done automatically, we apologize if the formulas are inaccurate.
