Chez Letellier, à Paris 1790, In-8 (12x20cm), vij (1bc.) iv, 454pp. et (4) iv, 432pp. et (4) 463pp., 3 tomes en 3 volumes reliés.

Original French edition illustrated with 7 folding plates, including 2 maps of Switzerland and Mont Blanc, and a panorama of the Alps.
Binders in half percaline beige nineteenth. Back with title labels in red morocco. Green paper boards. Dirty back. Very blunt corners. Small scattered pale freckles. The last 4 pages of volume 2 with a tear in the top margin with missing without affecting the text. The very large board from Switzerland with 2 restorations following tears. A slight tear in the margin of the Mont Blanc map. Tear with lack p. 77 of volume 1, in the lower margin, with the loss of a few letters.
Without doubt one of the best books on Switzerland. The author made 4 trips there which enabled him to cross the country. In addition to a classic travel relationship, the qualities of the author's historian are found in the work, the latter focusing on historical events, but also on flora and fauna, commerce ... the relationship of the first ascent of Mont Blanc. The appendix contains the stages of Coxe's 4 journeys. The last volume contains the "Faunula helvetica" or catalog of quadrupedes, birds, amphibians, fish and testaceae from Switzerland, put in order, and presented according to the Linnea system.
