first edition of 1658, with a relay title to Lambert's address and to the date of 1661. Apart from the title page, the only notable difference is the removal of the epistle to Cardinal de Mazarin who died on March 9 1661. The illustration is due to François Chauveau: 5 ornate frontispiece titles, 15 plates whose subjects are placed in the center of letters and flowered numbers and 5 plates only decorated with large numbers. The text is enhanced with 135 bands, drop caps and lamp bases engraved on wood in the style of frontispieces and plate figures.
Modern binding in full glossy brown Russian leather (long grain leather calf). Back to Jansenist nerves. Piece of iced red calf title. Netting at the top and head and framing of boards. Perfect condition of this binding established in very beautiful skin.
