First edition, rare, illustrated with a large folding map of Constantinople between Tehran and regions, and 9 lithographs (by Aubry, Vernet ...), and a portrait frontispiece of the Persian prince Mirza Albas. Sheepskin half light brown boards. Smooth back decorated with nets and chains; roulette tail. Marbled edges. Friction on the flat, but nice copy paper perfect freshness. Amédé jaubert, orientalist, was initially taken by Napoleon in Egypt, where he served as an interpreter in 1805 he was given an important diplomatic mission to Iran where he was negotiating with the Shah to establish the position of France in this region. During his trip, he was imprisoned by the Pasha of Bayazid and thrown into a tank for three months.
