First Edition. A title vignette repeated on four volumes contained Erasmus. Title pages in red and black. Full brown calf time. Back to nerves ornate. Part of title and volume number in red morocco decorated with wheels. A lack in head cover of volume I had to work worm, ditto the last box. Wetness on the top plate of Volume II (blackened). 3 corners bumped. Essentially historical memories, the Marquis de Montglat gets very rarely scene, carefully gathering the facts of his time from 1635 to 1668; although memories provide military details (campaigns between France and Austria), Montglat seeks to thwart the mechanisms of the court; the troubles of the Fronde are skillfully described and with more impartiality in all the memories of the time (Retz et al.)
