Alexander POPE & Germain-François Poullain de SAINT-FOIX

Essai sur l'homme [Ensemble] Lettres turques

S.n. ; Chez Pierre Marteau, s.l.; A Cologne 1736 - 1739, in-12 (9,5x16,5cm), xxx, 109pp. ; (2) 69pp., relié.

French Edition of The Essay on Man translated by Etienne de Silhouette, and second edition of the Turkish Letters published for the first time in 1730 by the same publisher in Cologne. Modern parchment cardboard. Piece as black sheepskin. The human trial, philosophical poem Pope is translated into prose, and is preceded by a long preface of the translator. Letters in Turkey, Saint-Foix was inspired by the model of Montesquieu (itself was modeled after the Chinese Spy Manara), but if the letters are held on the same principle, they do not contain Montesquieu and the lengths of the descriptions, they are all assigned to the whole story and the comparison of manners and customs in French and Turkish. --- Please note that the translation in english is done automatically, we apologize if the formulas are inaccurate.
