First Edition collective. A portrait frontispiece and two engravings by Marillier the second volume (one of these prints often lack). False titles and titles in red and black.
Full sheepskin slightly later blonde. Smooth spine decorated with boxes and wheels. Part of title in red morocco, and volume number in black morocco with wheels. Some corners bumped. A thin tear head of Volume I. Fine copy.
The posthumous edition, two years after the death of the author, is distributed as follows: Volume I and II: Theatre and letters Turkey; Volume III, IV, and V: Historical Essays on Paris; Volume VI: History of the Order of the Holy Spirit (which Saint-Foix was appointed historian in 1764). It does not forget the character was St. Foix, who served up to 36 years in the Musketeers in search of literary fame with its twenty rooms, with a rough and quarrelsome spirit. His two historical books are naturally important and significant.
