Original French edition, apparently translated from the German edition of 1792 Full Sheepskin brown vintage. spine smooth threads and jewels. Part of title in red calf. Rubbed together. Gold faded. Caps threadbare. The author, botanist, spent 15 months in Japan as a surgeon of the Dutch Company stationed at Deshima and Nagasaki. The description of the commercial, political, religious, linguistic and is one of the first and largest in Japan. Many anecdotes are very valuable, such as papermaking, card games, makeup, education, cleanliness, prostitutes ...
