First Edition 12mo, published the same year as the original in-4, although its complete table of contents that were sold separately.

Rare edition in four volumes of the book recounting the sensational trial of Robert-François Damiens, the last of France quartered, condemned for his attempted assassination of Louis XV. After the sentence, Damiens have had this terse famously "the day will be tough." The story goes that the sentence has been executed in atrocious conditions: more than two and a quarter during which the punishment of torturers go about sixty times a few hours because we were not allowed to cut the joints, as well as it was custom. The real torture scene is described by Voltaire in his History of the Parliament of Paris, but also by Casanova in his famous memoirs: "We had the consistency to stay four hours on this horrible show I can not say anything because I did. would be too long, and besides, it is known to everyone. We do not know if Damiens was a fanatic who tried to kill Louis XV, or a father wanting to punish the king of having abused his daughter and believing do a good work.
