First Edition. Full Calf porphyry iced time. Back tooled raised. Part of title in red morocco. Triple fillet border on covers. Early slot in the lower joint first. A slight lack in cap. Nice copy despite failing announced. These reflections on the manners and the Greek government is actually an expansion and deepening of a book published earlier (1749): Observations on the Greek. Mably justifies this updated work in his preface: "I often rent today that I blamed on my first observations, and blame the same things that I rented, is that there was a time when I considered some maxims of size, power and fortune states, like so many undeniable truths, and that after fifteen years of meditations on the same subject, I managed to not see that as errors that our passions & usually have spent.
