Chrisostome MATHANASIUS Le chef-d'oeuvre d'un inconnu

Chrisostome MATHANASIUS

Le chef-d'oeuvre d'un inconnu

Chez Marc-Mic. Bousquet, à Lausanne 1758, 2 tomes en 2 Vol. in-12 (9,5x17cm), relié.

Mention of augmented ninth edition, the first dating back to 1714. It is illustrated by two portraits of the author and Judith Beseraige who have discovered manuscripts, two folding plates, one music. This edition contains two new pieces, as well as announcing the preface: the translation of the preface to Cervantes in Don Quixote, and the deification of Aristarchus Masso (satire referring to the quarrel between Voltaire and the author).
Bound in full sheepskin blond marbled. Back to nerves decorated, roulette tail. Part of title and volume number in red morocco. Head cover of Volume I threadbare, and Volume II with a slight lack. 4 corners very blunt. Some rousserus beginning of the book. yellowed paper. Good decorative binding.
The masterpiece of an unknown is a vast literary hoax, a satire of the learned and pedantic. The pretext was the publication of a forgotten era of François 1st poem, a very short and quite insipid poem; the entire volume consisting of an amazing comment. These remarks are endless boxes of many accolades and written in praise of the author of the poem poems. --- Please note that the translation in english is done automatically, we apologize if the formulas are inaccurate.
