First Edition first posthumous print, illustrated with 10 vignettes title décorativespar Eisen and 5 Dead-lamp, engraved by Tardieu and Delafosse. 2 volumes with continuous pagination with a half-title and title page to the second volume. A medallion portrait frontispiece by Rigaud. Full brown calf marbled time. Smooth back ornate irons and rollers. Part of title in red morocco. Upper cap threadbare. upper joint slightly split into head and tail. Corners bumped. Frontispiece yellowed. Pretty good copy costs. In imitation of teaching and philosophical poem of Lucretius: De rerum natura, a hymn to Epicureanism, the Cardinal Melchior de Polignac gives a refutation of the Christian and Cartesian model. The poem was translated and often experienced multiple editions, and although the philosophical pretensions of poems not carried away, it was valued at fair value as one of the best imitations of Latin poetry. --- Please note that the translation in english is done automatically, we apologize if the formulas are inaccurate.
