First Edition. Illustrated with 4 colored plates and 11 figs. shagreen posterior half black. Back with false nerves. Cold and golden threads. Between the title and editorial data, a rectangle 3 cm was cut, probably to remove a bookplate. Tail: Collège de France. 2 library labels on the back. Barkow (1798-1873) was professor of anatomy at the University of Breslau. His publications were rightly keymaps, including their illustrations. His correspondence with Darwin is well known.
