Rare original edition of this booklet. Absent the BNF and French catalogs. Naked paperless brochure covering it. 1664 Toussaint until January 1665, we saw a large comet tail from north to south, and another was visible from north to south. Many commentators took part in the scientific debate about the nature of comets and their paths, including high scientific in Jesuit colleges whose Ragayne and Cassini, but Tarteron. About Comet 1664 Cassini (1625-1712) told a session at the Academy of Sciences which was founded the same year (p XII.): '... I was forced to give ... little curvature to the line of motion of the Comet, most astronomers [...] supposoient Estre a straight line, and to acknowledge that estoit a small part of a large circumference, wherein they do pouvoit that after the same Comet should return after several years to become visible ... Since that time I have endeavored to compare Comets have since appeared, to those who had appeared before, to test if I do not between them should find some report that can be conjectured that the seroient Mesmes seroient who returned after one or more revolutions. It is precisely in these years and thanks to the Comets in particular that the French astronomy was born, and while Cassini was the most illustrious member, we can also remember that other scientists participated in this birth. Halley's comet is shown in 1682.
