New edition after the original from 1531. Brunet IV, 317. Caillet, 7096. Title page in a frame engraved. Vellum full time flexible flap. Title (author) with black pen. Some annotation in red pen on the front page next to the title on the history of the book. Copy cropped short on some pages, including the index. Collection consists of 12 poems Latin liberal arts, human existence and happiness, each corresponding to a zodiac sign. Because of the criticisms the book contains the church and the pope, the 1531 edition was banned and the Inquisition kept a watchful eye on the activities of Palingenius, until he should be sentenced to the stake. The 11th book aims to astronomy, and 12 sets out a theory of light which will be partially followed by Giordano Bruno. Marcellus Palingenius is an anagram for Pietro Angelo Manzolli.
