First Edition, illustrated with 36 steel plates, printed on heavy paper. Text on vellum stained. Cardboard editor. Half shagreen emerald ornate foliage and vines. Large plate on both boards cold with a gold central medallion. Large decorative pattern Pompeian type and Renaissance, with characters and arabesques. Light rubbing on spine and joint; folded corners. Foxing in the margins of some prints, due serpentes. Nice copy. Anthology (Cowper, Barton ...) illustrated engravings by Thomas Allom, Purser, Prout ... Many oriental scenes (Beirut, towns and villages of India, Tunis, Gibraltar), some portraits Castle and Great Britain. Beautiful romantic engravings which the English were supposed to be the best artists during this contemporary. Bookplate: Books Romantics. M. and H.
