Extremely rare original albumen carbinet card photograph of painter Jean-Léon Gérôme.
Signed and inscribed by Gérôme to Henry Graves in black pen. Henry Graves was an American banker, collector and president of the renowned watchmaking company Philippe Patek, which created the Supercomplication, one of the most complex watches ever made. He bought several paintings from Gérôme, including Un sultan en prière [A praying Sultan].
With stamped photographer's credit on the mount: "Photographié par Charles Gallot". On the back, photographer's stamped advertisement: "Photographie artisitique, Charles Gallot, photographe des gens de lettres".
Charles Gallot was a French photographer active in Paris from 1876 to 1898. He famously shot the last ever portrait of Victor Hugo on April 12, 1885.
