first edition produced for France and illustrated with 62 inserts on steel and strong paper by Thomas Allom. The English edition, the title of which is engraved frontispiece, France illustrated, includes 4 volumes and a larger number of engravings.
Publisher's packaging in full marine percaline imitating leather. Smooth back decorated with a rich decorative plate. boards stamped with a large plate with foliage and foliage and a crown. Lemon guards. Some foxing left by the snakes, but on the whole very clean, with a beautiful impression on tinted vellum. Slight comma left by wetting on the upper flat of volume I, otherwise together in superb condition, rare in this state.
