Original illustrated edition of 1,500 engravings from the drawings of Blanchard, Cham, Gavarni, French, Gradville, Pauquet, Lami, Vernet ... including two double page engravings, a bird's eye view of Paris and a map of Paris in 1853.
Vintage half shagreen red binding. Back with false nerves decorated with cold boxes, nets on and between the nerves, and rollers in tail and head. Friction in caps, bits, nerves and corners. Blunt corners. Some dark spots on the boards. Some scattered foxinges at the beginning of work on a paper remained quite fresh.
Superb publication, abundantly illustrated from Paris at the start of the Second Empire, at the start of the Haussmanian transformations.
