William CLARKE

Aspasie, traduit de l'anglais

Chez Buisson, à Londres & se trouve à Paris 1787, in 12 (16,7x10cm), 211 pp (dont 5 p. de catalogue). et 238 pp. et un f. de table., deux tomes en un volume relié.

Original French edition, this novel, rare, having appeared last year in London. Half red morocco late nineteenth 5 Jansenist nerves. Translation attributed to Isabelle Montolieu an English Gothic novel published anonymously by Richard Clarke: Arpasia, or the wanderer. Arpasia became in French by Aspasia homonymous with the famous Greek courtesan. This is a novel in which turbulent attends misadventures of Miss Aspasia Hanbury who is caught in a dark family history. It is not a thriller in the strict sense, but a literature torn between two rocks, the Gothic novel and its vicissitudes and the novel of manners of the eighteenth. --- Please note that the translation in english is done automatically, we apologize if the formulas are inaccurate.
