First illustrated edition for these two books, First printing of a portrait and 32 boards for The Three Musketeers, 37 boards for Twenty years after. Various ornament, headbands, culs-de-lampe, lettrines ... The illustration is the work of much, Phillipoteaux
Binding half calf iced raspberry ca 1880 with corners. Smooth back richly adorned with decorated boxes and nets, with roulette tail and head. Title and date golden. Golden head.
The very few covers have been preserved. Binding made on brochure and untrimmed. Exceptional exemplary paper pristine for both books, a perfect freshness, which is undeniably very rare, the illustrated titles of Dumas being always stitched and browned and bindings modest. Despite cracking on the upper mos of Volume 2, along the second box, beautiful copy of any rarity in this almost irreproachable condition.
