First edition, beautifully illustrated with 201 figures inset and 120 vignettes by Grandville.
Bindings in half glossy black calf vintage. Smooth backs decorated with animal irons (monkey, butterfly, bird) in a rocaille frame along. Traces of friction in caps, joints, borders and corners. Friction on the boards. Some leaves slightly out.
We no longer present this famous publication, a satire of contemporary Parisian society of the Second Empire, whose company is due to Hetzel, who under the pseudonym of Stahl signed several texts and commissioned texts with the most famous feathers of the Time: Balzac, Musset, Sand, The Bedollière ... The last chapter tells the imprisonment of the various writers that can be seen in locations in the Jardin des Plantes. One of Grandville's great works of imagination, full of verve and fantasy.
