Bel autograph signed by Valentine Hugo: "Sherban copy of which saw the slow and difficult birth of these images in a painful time when the press was heavy ... heavy ... With tenderness Valentine"
The dedicatee has cracked a new autograph dated from 1951 to Gaston Batteux: "... this moral tale more than we think Wishing he keeps longer than has been Sherban ... . "
