Illustrated book, frontispiece, a photographic portrait of the author.
Ernst Toller was a militant pacifist, anarchist participating in the establishment of the short-lived Republic of Bavaria councils, alongside Gustav Landauer and Erich Mühsam. He will commit suicide in exile in the United States, desperate for the triumph of Nazism, thus preceding Stephan Zweig in death.
Very beautiful and rare copy.
