La Jangada. 800 lieues sur l'Amazone

Hetzel, Paris 1881, In-8 (18x27,7cm), relié.

First edition illustrated by Benett. The text is followed from Rotterdam to Copenhagen aboard the steamer "Saint-Michel" by Paul Verne, illustrated by Riou. AP catalog in-fine connected.
Lenègre's "two elephants" editor cartonnage with the rare lilac color. Second flat type Lenègre d cold. Beautiful first plate, the 2 corners slightly folded. Back well, some signs of discoloration with caps a little sagging and rubbed. Nice second board with a micro slot in the head. Fresh interior, the leaves of the catalog a little frangled in margin. Nice copy.
One of the rare titles of Verne belonging to the police genre, with a survey to conduct and an enigma to solve. A family, for a wedding in Brazil, goes down the Amazon on a boat called jangada, a kind of train on wood. The protagonist has taken refuge for a crime he did not commit in Peru.
