First edition printed in 162 copies, ours one of 150 numbered copies on tinted vellum, the only issue with 12 on Whatman. Bradel binding in half emerald green morocco, smooth spine stamped with gilt title lettered lengthwise, pebbled paper boards, front cover preserved, binding signed P. Goy and C. Vilaine. Signed autograph inscription from André Gide "au poëte Angiolo Orvieto en témoignage de sympathie" ["to the poet Angiolo Orvieto in testimony of sympathy"]. Rare testimony to his relationship with Angiolo Orvieto, Florentine poet and librettist, who founded the periodical Il Marzocco in 1896, and devoted a study to the writer the following year. The two poets were united by their admiration for Chopin, who inspired Orvieto to write an opera and Gide his Notes sur Chopin (1948).
