First edition (second issue) for The Second Jungle Book, fourth rare UK printing (first in 1894) by MacMillan for The Jungle Book. Numerous full-page and in-text illustrations by J. L. Kipling, Drake and Frenzeny, as well as lettrines, headbands... 42 illustrations for The jungle book, including 19 full-page, 39 in-text for The Second Jungle Book.
Publisher's blue and gilt cloth binding for the 2 volumes. Smooth spines decorated with animal motifs in gilt. First board also decorated with large animal motifs stamped in gilt, 3 elephants stamped on The jungle book, a cobra on The second jungle book. Traces of rubbing, notably to headpieces and spines, corners. The last quire of The jungle book sticking out, another detached. Some scattered foxing. A scratch on the first board and a small circular area rubbed. For the second book: warped, with some spots on the spine. Very fresh.
Bookseller's ticket on first flyleaf "The jungle book : Hodges, Figg's & co. Bookseller". Dublin. Penned signature on facing page: Edith Kohler.
Attractive set in publisher's binding.
