First edition

Louis RACINE Oeuvres de Louis Racine

Louis RACINE

Oeuvres de Louis Racine

Le Normant, Paris 1808, in-8 (13x21cm), 6 volumes reliés.

Edition truly comprehensive collective works of the author; a first edition of the works in 4 volumes had appeared from 1742 to 1747 and contained only 4 volumes. Illustrated with a portrait frontispiece of the author, by Gabriel de Saint-Aubin. Full calf blond embossed signed P. Serre. Back smooth lyrical motifs ornate golden. Golden caps on wheels. Triple net coaching on flat lined with golden lace. Inner frieze. Gilt edges. Some corners bumped. Slight friction cap. Copy almost free freckles. Louis Racine, son of playwright Jean Racine became famous by his Christian poems: Religion and Grace. The author has striven to bring to St. Thomas and St. Augustine. His memoirs on the life of Jean Racine are valuable and rich information about the literary life of the time. Louis Racine remains one of the good poets of that time, perfectly representative of mainstream inherited Boileau. --- Please note that the translation in english is done automatically, we apologize if the formulas are inaccurate.
