Arnaud BERQUIN Romances

Arnaud BERQUIN

Romances

de l'imprimerie de Moutardier., à Paris 1796, in 16 (10,5x14cm), (4) vij (1bc) v-xxxij, 124pp. 44., deux parties reliées en un volume.

New illustrated edition of these Romances. Frontispiece and 13 figures unsigned, and 44 pages of engraved music. Printed on thick rod. Full marbled calf contemporary. Smooth spine decorated with arabesques and jewels. Triple Net framework on boards. Gilt edges. Good copy. Smear the corners and jaw. The poems of Berquin had an immense success, we called them thus popular as they reflect perfectly the European literature of the late eighteenth century, and that it sometimes feels the first Romanticism from Germany and England . Some poems are dark and theatrical, full of Gothic reminiscences: "Under the castle tower opens an ugly / pregnant Where ever has pierced Day / The waves of a steam infects and dark / flood unclean living. "Having devoted to poetry, Berquin (1747-1791) was the first French writer to specialize in children's literature. Pages of music are Cousin-Jacques, serial writer of the time. On the cover page, manuscript ex dono: A Claire Caperoy. --- Please note that the translation in english is done automatically, we apologize if the formulas are inaccurate.
