The first illustrated edition contained only two engravings Deveria, and appeared in 1846, the same year as the original edition; one, fully illustrated, includes a frontispiece and 10 inset on strong paper, a large thumbnail title and 60 woodcuts half-page and drop caps and cul-de-lamp. This edition is printed on the model of the popular editions made by Maresq with two columns per page, but the inset remind other editions illustrated Dumas, including The Count of Monte Cristo.
Binding half grief green tree. Back with nerves decorated boxes (fat and lean fillets). gilt. Small friction copings, jaw and corners. Restoration outer margin of two layers. Beautiful specimen, with a paper of perfect freshness, with no spots or freckles.
