Edition in first edition of 1 subtitle, 2 frontispieces by volume including a statement in gold (in duplicate) in volume 1, and abundantly illustrated with in-text ornaments and vignettes, as well as some text by Andrew Best Leloir, Levilly. Edition made from the text of 1704 corrected with a dissertation of Baron Silvestre de Sacy.
Bindings half red shagreen contemporary. Back with nerves adorned with 4 boxed florets. Traces of friction, especially on the edges. Very rare small freckles and some isolated leaflets with brownish, but very fresh paper overall. Nice copy.
One of the most beautiful illustrated of the romantic contemporary and the wood engraving, as much by the ornaments as by the invention in the drawing.
