First illustrated, unusual edition of 60 inserts on wood by Gustave Doré, engraved by Huyot, Jonnard ... Edition at the first address: Quai de l'école, preferable to the second.
Publisher's binding in half red heartache, signed E. at the bottom of the upper cover, certainly for Engel. Back with false flat nerves decorated with grotesque boxes with central cartridges. Golden title. Golden slices. White moire guards with some stains. rare and pale freckles around the snakes, but on the whole paper of a superb freshness.
Very nice copy in perfect condition.
"Publication highly sought after for its remarkable illustration, it is very rare in the first print". "(Carteret, 259p.). One of the first works illustrated by the young Gustave Doré, friend of Théophile Gautier.
