First edition of these hours entirely made in chromolithography and inspired by medieval manuscripts. 176 chromolithographs mounted on tabs, including the title, 4 inset in sepia and gold, the rest in decorative compositions around the text, each page being different. 4 pages of family memories, the brand of the publisher-printer in fine.
Binding full morocco burgundy signed Gruel tail. Back with nerves adorned with cold boxes mute. Cold-worked boards of a large frame frieze repulsed with dragons, flowers and fruits, angular florets. Rich interior frieze. Burgundy moire silk guards. Golden slices. Decor evoking the great monastic bindings of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. A shirt and a burgundy cardboard case, a corner of the case detached. 2 pages have white areas of paper, as if a snake had adhered to the chromos, another page also but more superficilelement.
Very nice copy and superb realization of Gruel and Engelmann.
