First edition of the new French translation of Christian, illustrated in first edition of 10 off-text by Gavarni on wood and multiple vignettes, initials, culs-de-lamp by the same.
Editor binding in full black shagreen ornate. Smooth back decorated with a large rocky plate. Ditto on the boards. Golden slices. Binding unsigned probably Boutigny. Slightly tinted paper. Some rare pale foxinges. A blunt corner. Friction marks. Guards of marbled paper redone. Sheets VI and VIII, and 8 and 10 carrying discrete restorations. Sheet 239 with missing at the bottom of the page, reaching several lines.
Very nice copy, rare in full publisher binding.
17 stories (Salvator Rosa, The song of Antonia, Coppelius ...), including The heroic story of the famous Minister Klein-Zach, called Cinnabar, in ten chapters.
