Jules VERNE De la terre à la lune. Autour de la lune

Jules VERNE

De la terre à la lune. Autour de la lune

Hetzel 1898, Grd. in-8 (18x28,2cm), 170pp. ; 177pp., relié.

New edition, illustrated with 41 engravings and a map for De la terre à la lune by De Montaut and engraved by Pannemaker, and 40 engravings by Bayard and neuville engraved by Hildibrand. 4 chromolithographies by Roux for From the earth to the moon, and 4 for Around the moon. First full color print for From Earth to the Moon, and second for Around the Moon.
Type 3 "golden globe" cardboard, and Engel h second plate, back to the lighthouse. Light gray guards. Beautiful first plate, shiny, a thin stripe under the title cartridge. Top right corner with folds. Clean and shiny back, but with soiling in the vignette at the lighthouse, scratching areas on the title labels, sagging caps. Dirty haloes on the second board. 2 notebooks emerged, a little loose. A flying color board. Fresh paper, devoid of foxinges. Beautiful copy.
Mythical science fiction titles by the author, rare in this box. In the first novel of this diptych, the Gin club of Baltimore, after the Civil War, attempts to send men to the moon in a shell. In Around the Moon , three men are fired from a cannon in a shell aimed at the moon. We know how much imagination based on the scientific knowledge of Jules Verne will be premonitory and that it will inspire many artists.
