Thomas Simon GUEULLETTE (Thomas Simon GUEULETTE) Les mille et une heures, contes peruviens

Thomas Simon GUEULLETTE (Thomas Simon GUEULETTE)

Les mille et une heures, contes peruviens

Chez Nyon, la veuve Damonneville..., A Londres & se trouve à Paris 1759, In-12 (10x17cm), (4) xij, 407pp. et (4) 490pp., 2 Volumes reliés.

New edition, rare, partly original. The author has given in this second edition a sequel and ends his tales; 373-490p. Peruvian tales appeared for the first time in 1733, and we find, curiously, no trace of them in the libraries which only possess the more complete edition of 1759. By Thomas-Simon Gueullette, after Barbier. The London address is wrong.
Binding full sheepskin vintage marbled. Back with ornate nerves. title label in red morocco, piece of tomane of Havana sheepskin. Headdress of the first volume partially torn off, idem tail. Lower bit split in the head and tail of Volume I. A lack on the flat of Volume II by nibbling. 2 blunt corners.
These tales, like the tartar tales of the same author, had a great success in their time; the narrative mode is that of the Thousand and One Nights, whose title The Thousand and One Hour is the reference. The tales and footnotes contain many commentaries on the life, customs, religion and politics of the ancient peoples of Peru, the Incas.
