Jules LAURENS

Téhéran

S.n., s.l. 1848, 43x57cm (dimensions du cadre) 42,19,5cm (dimensions du dessin), une feuille sous marie-louise et cadre de bois ancien.

Original pencil drawing heightened with watercolor on pink paper, captioned on the top right, showing a view of the cemetery and the walls of Tehran.
Joseph Auguste Jules Laurens was born in Carpentras (1825-1901) was a French painter and lithographer. From 1846 to 1849, he toured Eastern Europe, Greece, Turkey and Persia as a cartoonist, as part of a scientific mission led by geographer Xavier Hommaire Hell. Despite the failure of the mission (death Hommaire Hell in Isfahan, non-payment of work), he brought hundreds of sketches (historical monuments and daily life of the inhabitants of these regions), drawings and watercolors, which will serve its business artistic. This drawing dates undoubtedly from that era. --- Please note that the translation in english is done automatically, we apologize if the formulas are inaccurate. Contact us for any information!
