Marcel-Lenoir, pseudonym of Jules Oury (1872-1931) was a French painter. Fascinated by Symbolism, he was a frequent visitor of the poet Paul Fort's and also frequented Rosicrucian circles. It was also at this time that he discovered the works of the Swiss artist Arnold Böcklin, the English artist Edward Burne-Jones and Pierre Puvis de Chavannes.
Alberto Giacometti had enormous admiration for him and said: “For me, he was the greatest of his age…he had a way of painting in facets that was totally his own. He made a profound impression on me”.
