Vue d'optique - L'intérieur de Saint Paul de Rome

ANONYME

Vue d'optique - L'intérieur de Saint Paul de Rome

Chez Daumont et Lachaussée, Paris [circa 1790], 46x33,5cm, une feuille.

Original etching. For enhanced optical color watercolor, representing an interior view of St Paul in Rome. The optical views, also called views, perspectives or "mondo nuovo" prints are very popular between the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century. They were meant to be viewed through a set of several mirrors or by means of a Zygrascope instrument consisting of a mirror and a lens. The optical views can be seen as precursors of three-dimensional images and stereoscopes which enjoyed great success in the nineteenth century. The optical views seem to appear in the 1740s and are entertainment area. The method was developed first in Paris, then London and finally in Germany and clung to represent - so idealized - the most famous sights and landscapes of the East and West. Beautiful event at very fresh colors. --- Please note that the translation in english is done automatically, we apologize if the formulas are inaccurate. Contact us for any information!
