First edition, comprising 10 volumes in addition to the Folio of the first edition, the five volumes of supplements published later in 1724 See Cohen 731-732. Title pages in red and black. The illustration also remarkable than abundant, is represented by a portrait of dedicatee (Count Victor-Marie d'Estrées) 16 vignettes title, headbands and 15 boards in 1376, three folding and 256 double-page. The designs are Sébastien Leclerc, Nicolas Largilliere and Jean Audran, and engraved by Audran and Le Clerc. (There is no frontispiece in the original as stated Brunet edition.) Full period calf. spine ribbed ornate. various scuffs. qqs caps rubbed. qqs corners bumped. qqs jaw partially cracked. Good set. Monumental and undeniably prolific company on classical antiquity, the work made by B. de Montfaucon (1655-1741) the undisputed father of paleography and scientific archeology. His work reveals the social and cultural and artistic aspects of these civilizations as well remains absolutely essential in the historical approach of antiquity.
