Rare first edition illustrated with a frontispiece with the emblem of Cardinal Mazarin and a plate out of text representing a cippe (funerary monument) found in Bologna in 1601.
It is a presentation and an interpretation of the funerary stele of the centurion Manilius Quintus Cordus (1st century BC) by the philologist Alessandro Nigri who is now in the Bologna museum. The author quotes other inscriptions including three relating to bullfighting (sacrifice of bulls).
Paperback, in ivory paper. A clear and pale wetting on the whole volume in high margin.
Rare work absent from the British Library (but present one at Oxford.)
