Antoine Joseph PERNETY

First edition, rare. Full Calf blond marbled time. Back tooled raised. Parts of title and volume number in red morocco. Head cover of Volume I slightly threadbare. Frottelents the caps, corners and jaw. Slices cailloutées blue. Good copy. Beyond the study of Greek and Egyptian mythology, and a correction of the Abbe Banier statements on the subject, the book follows the method of hermetic philosophy in his quest for truth and knowledge. We know that the hermetic philosophy (of Hermes), which established secret and symbolic relationships between all things is the basis of alchemy. Thus, by hiding behind the guise of a mythography, the work is actually a treatise on alchemy and hermetic philosophy. Moreover mythology and Greek and Egyptian texts are the foundation of Hermeticism. Antoine Joseph Pernéty Hermetic discovered in 1757 in a library; it was a revelation. This Benedictine congregation of St. Maur, chaplain traveling Bougainville later defrocked priest and librarian of Frederick II of Prussia, plunged himself in search of the philosopher's stone; his passionate work of Swedenborg, he founded the sect of the Illuminati of Berlin.
