contemporary bindings in full black morocco. Back with five nerves. Cold net in frame of boards. Golden net on cups and cups. Lace with floral motifs in framing of the counterplates. All golden slices.
Slightly insolated back. In the first volume, page 329 badly encrypted 932. Nice copy, rare in this condition.
After the great success of his first books, The History of the Revolutions of Portugal, of Sweden , it was asserted that there was no finer pen in the kingdom to write history, other historians, like Bouhours, but even Madame de Sevigne; Vertot threw himself into his favorite work: The History of the Roman Revolutions . Vertot added nothing to what had been written, did not make any particular inquiries except compilation, and he conceived of Roman history as a great tragedy, such that it was finally seen at that time, and it is easier to grasp in this work that Vertot loved essentially to paint and to tell.
