First edition of this translation of Toussaint. Illustrated with a frontispiece representing a concert played by animals. Slightly later binding Bozérian kind. Smooth back ornate. Part of title in red morocco. Framing the Greek boards. Gilt edges. Flush caps. Upper joint cracked. Corners bumped. Gellert was a national celebrity, celebrated and acclaimed for the purity of his writings and his manners, he fell into disuse when it was criticized by the new school in place, boiling Youth Sturm und Drang. Posterity has mostly retained its fables and tales, translated for the first time in French in this edition printed in Leipzig, the city in which the author died in 1769, a year later. --- Please note that the translation in english is done automatically, we apologize if the formulas are inaccurate.
