Original edition, quite rare. Title page in red and black.
Binding on half basane red end eighteenth. Dos to decorated nerves of lean and fatty nets. Title of brown morocco piece. Missing lower Cap, and lacks a leather band along the upper mors. Friction. A brown waterstain at the center of 144-145 slips.
Roman to satirical keys upon the period of the Regency which followed the death of Louis XIV and the early years of reign of Louis XV. Under the misnomer's Memoirs, it comes of an oriental narrative, narrating all events in France and Europe since the death of Louis XIV, actual names being hidden behind the Oriental names. We shall see for the first time trace the history of iron mask. The book had such repercussion that even years later, the families involved demanded the Government under the Restoration its blacklisting. The author was, he goes from either, imprisoned in the Bastille when publishing.
