Binding in plain granite brown contemporary sheepskin. Smooth back decorated. Title and volume pieces in red morocco.
The Abbe Prevost was one of the main agitators of the letters with Lesage of the first part of the eighteenth, and certainly one of the best novelists. His prolixity and his ease were reproached but he left with The history of the Chevalier des Grieux and Manon Lescaut one of the immortal masterpieces of French literature, following which will be condemned to fire by Parliament to Paris. It was also because of his forced exile in Holland paper and England that the author took the name of d'Exiles.
