first edition. Tchemerzine VI, 331.
Bound in full brown sheepskin contemporary. Back with nerves decorated. Headdresses threadbare. Rubbed together. Large brown spot on the top plate. 3 corners bumped. P. 158-168 scorched.
All posthumous books of La Bruyère (died 1696) were completed by the editor Louis Ellies Dupin, who wrote the book for two dialogues.
